EUROPE/POLAND - How to use the rich experience of missionaries who have returned back home

Tuesday, 4 October 2011

Warsaw (Agenzia Fides) – There were more than 70 participants at the meeting which had the theme of the missionaries who finished their service and returned to their homeland, Poland. The congress, which took place from 29 September to 1 October in Konstancin-Jeziorna near Warsaw, was sponsored by the National Directorate of the Pontifical Mission Societies (PMS) of Poland, which has sent a statement to Fides, and by the Secretariat for the missions of the Pallottines (SAC), in collaboration with the Episcopal Commission for Missions and the Missionary Foundation Salvatti.
Participants did not want to stop and analyze the causes of their return, but focused on two themes: the difficulties a missionary meets when he/her returns to Poland and how you can use the rich missionary and ecclesial experience in the field of missionary animation. Father Tomasz Atlas, National Director of the Pontifical Missions informs Fides that the participants proposed to hold such meetings every two years. In addition, the meeting showed that the exchange of information on missionary iniatives on the one hand and the attention paid not to lose the perspective of the universal Church in the activities of the local Church on the other, largely determine the fruitfulness of missionary animation in Poland.
The meeting was attended among others by: the missionaries who returned home at the end of their service, the PMS Diocesan Directors, secretaries of the missionary congregations. Among the guests: His Exc. Mgr. Celestino Migliore, Apostolic Nuncio in Poland, His Exc.Mgr. Wiktor Skworc, President of the Episcopal Commission for Missions, Archbishop Henryk Hoser Mgr (SAC), a former missionary in Rwanda , the current Bishop of Warszwava-Prague.
