Jakarta (Agenzia Fides) - A young missionary community dedicated to Pope John Paul II finds its way into the Indonesians hearts: it is the "Missionary Community John Paul II", founded by the missionary of the Pontifical Institute for Foreign Missions (PIFM) Fr. Giuseppe Buono and also promoted by the activity of the Pontifical Mission Societies (PMS) in Indonesia.
As reported to Fides by Fr. Buono, "the community was founded in 1995. Its activities and presence in Indonesia has been facilitated by priests and lay people who work closely with the PMS, as well as the spread of the book 'With Mary on the streets of the world', on the missionary-Marian magisterium of John Paul II. "The book, written by the PIFM missionary, has just been translated into Indonesian language and the 2,000 copies published are already out of stock.
In recent weeks, Fr. Buono carried out a "missionary tour" in Indonesia, reaching the islands of Java and Bali, where meetings and celebrations in churches, parishes and communities were held, as well as the seat of the Episcopal Conference. The Christian faithful, but also Muslims, showed keen interest in "the message of the missionary Pope".
The missionary told Fides: "I noticed a heroic faith in the Indonesian believers, which is expressed in the joy of praying, of being useful to others, welcoming, helpful, united. It is a faith marked by a touching devotion to Mary and John Paul II. I could see how much Pope John Paul II was loved in these remote islands. " There are conditions and good prospects to allow the "Missionary Community John Paul II to grow", which aims to give its contribution to the work of evangelization of the Church in Indonesia.
