AMERICA/BRAZIL - Missionary Campaign 2011: "Mission and Ecology"

Friday, 16 September 2011

Brasilia (Agenzia Fides) - The missionary campaign for 2011 will officially be presented next Wednesday, September 21, at the national headquarters of the Pontifical Mission Societies (PMS) of Brazil, in Brasilia,. According to information received by Fides, the Missionary Campaign, sponsored by the PMS in order to attract the attention of Christians on their missionary work, usually in Brazil is linked to the Brotherhood Campaign, which is thus characterized by a universal approach. This year the Brotherhood Campaign dealt with the theme "Fraternity and life on the planet", so the Missionary Campaign’s theme will be "Mission and Ecology", with the biblical inspiration slogan "The mercy of God is for every living being".
Missionary Campaign takes place every year in October, the month of missions, and its highlight is World Mission Day, the penultimate Sunday of the month. To help reflect on the theme, the PMS produce and send to all the dioceses various subsidies, such as DVDs, posters, pamphlets and missionary novena texts, along with the Message of Pope Benedict XVI for Mission Day. Dioceses, parishes and communities usually participate in the Campaign, particularly in the month of missions. The collection of World Mission day, to support the projects of the Church in mission territories, such as aid to the dioceses, the opening and maintenance of the seminars, the financing of social projects and assisting missionaries in Brazil has taken place nationwide since 1972.
