AMERICA/BOLIVIA - A course on popular religiosity for new missionaries

Tuesday, 13 September 2011

Cochabamba (Agenzia Fides) - The department of Evangelization of the Commission for the missions of the Episcopal Conference of Bolivia, with the coordination of the Pontifical Mission Societies (PMS), has organized a course for new missionaries who have arrived in Bolivia. The main objective is to offer the new missionaries (priests, religious and lay) the key elements to understand the reality of the local church. According to information received by Fides, the course is intended primarily for new missionaries who have come from abroad to provide a pastoral service to the Church in Bolivia, but is enriching to other priests or lay people, as for those who want to bring themselves up to date and want to enter the permanant formation in the missionary field.
Another goal is to increase knowledge about the history and popular religion of one’s own country, so as to enable a more adequate and deep inculturation. To extend this horizon, there are five themes to be developed: the history of the Church in Bolivia, the pastoral of the Church in Bolivia, the popular religion and spaces for evangelization, the biblical approach of popular religion, the Andean spirituality. The event will be held from September 25 to 30 at the Maurer home in the city of Cochabamba. (CE) (Agenzia Fides 13/09/2011)
