AMERICA/PERU - The pilgrimage of the relics of St. Therese of Lisieux in Peru have started

Arequipa (Agenzia Fides) - As part of the celebrations for the centenary of the presence of the Discalced Carmelites in Peru (1911-2011), the relics of St. Therese of Lisieux arrived in Peru. According to the program presented by Fr.Saulo Alvarado Zamora, ODC, presidentof the welcoming committee, the urn from the Basilica of Lisieux arrived in Peru on August 30 and will stay until Nov. 30, to visit different regions of the country (see Fides 13/8/2011). On Sunday, September 4 the urn containing the relics is scheduled to arrive in Arequipa, which will be on display from 4 to 8 September in the parish of St. John of the Holy Cross in the Cathedral and at the Monastery of Santa Teresa. Within this program, there is also the visit of the relics to one of the prisons in Arequipa and a hospital, to be venerated by the faithful in all situations of life of our society.
The note sent to Fides states that after Arequipa, the urn will continue its long pilgrimage throughout Peru: in September in the south, in October in the central part of the country and in November in the north. It will visit the monastery communities of the Carmelite nuns and institutes of consecrated life which share the charism and mission of Caramel, as well as a center of worship in their respective dioceses: Abancay, Arequipa. Ayacucho Callao, Carabayllo, Chiclayo, Chimbote, Chosica, Chuquibamba, Cuzco, Huacho, Huancayo, Huancavelica, Ica, Lima, Lurin, Piura, Puno, Tacna, Moquegua, and Yurimaguas Yauyos.
