ASIA/HONG KONG-Proclamation and testimony, the two recommendations from Mgr.Tong to catechists

Hong Kong (Agenzia Fides) - Proclamation and testimony to fulfill the mission of evangelization. This is what His Exc. Mgr. John Tong, Bishop of Hong Kong, recommended to the catechists in Hong Kong during the awards ceremony organized recently by the Diocesan Commission of Catechism. According to reports from the Kong Ko Bao (the Chinese version of the diocesan bulletin), 45 catechists of 26 parishes in the diocese of Hong Kong were awarded by Mgr.Tong. Among them is Ms. Leung, from the parish of St. Paul, who has 55 years of experience as a catechist, teacher, responsible for the catechumens. Mgr. Tong encouraged all of the 210 catechists of 37 parishes present, to observe scrupulously the Magisterium of the Church in their teaching and service training of catechumens, giving a living witness. Finally, the Bishop gave the missionary mandate to all the catechists.
According to Hong Kong Catholic Church Directory 2011, to August 31, 2010 there were 357,000 faithful in the diocese of Hong Kong, 42 parishes, 1,472 volunteer catechists, 41 full-time catechists paid by the diocese. The catechumens were 4,367 children, 1,428 adults and 2,554 adults. (NZ) (Agenzia Fides 07/01/2011)
