ASIA/CHINA- Mainland Catholic communities and the devotion to the Sacred Heart

Monday, 6 June 2011

Beijing (Agenzia Fides) - The mainland Chinese Catholic communities are intensely experiencing the month of June, dedicated to the Sacred Heart, with various initiatives. Devotion to the Sacred Heart of Jesus is very much felt in China and has been transmitted from one generation to another. In addition to diocesan parishes and religious congregations, there are also numerous associations, groups or different kinds of Catholic institutions which paid homage to the Sacred Heart, adopting its name. For example,
Foundation of the Sacred Heart of the Diocese of Ji Ning, Shan Dong province, celebrated a few days ago its first anniversary and one year of service to poor families, disadvantaged children and the sick, Catholics and non-Catholics in the name of the Sacred Heart. Thanks to the generosity of the faithful who have provided the necessary funds, or even by giving their own retirement or savings of a lifetime, has enabled the Foundation to help children return to school, support the lepers marginalized and abandoned by the family, visit the sick in hospital . So the charitable work has become, thanks to the living testimony of faith, work of evangelization.
Among other initiatives, which Fides received, the parish of the Sacred Heart of Gan Liao Gou of the Diocese of Tai Yuan, has kept the tradition to devote to the Sacred Heart an hour of prayer every Friday night: the initiative , started in July 2006, and continues today. The Word of God is the focus of the weekly prayer, so that the faithful can get closer to the Heart of the Lord. Even the congregation of the Pious Daughters of the Sacred Heart of Jesus in the diocese of Kun Ming, founded in 1940 and reopened in 2005, is living intensively the month of the Sacred Heart with the greatest missionary and pastoral commitment.
