ASIA/CHINA-New workers in the vineyard of the Lord for the Catholic communities of the continent

Beijing (Agenzia Fides) - In the intense celebration of the Marian month and the Day of Prayer for Vocations, the Fourth Sunday of Easter, several Chinese Catholic communities have welcomed the "new workers in the vineyard of the Lord, " according to information received by Fides. Among these we recall the ordination presided by Archbishop Cai Bing Rui, Bishop of the Diocese of Xia Men in the province of Fu Jian, ordained on May 8, 2010 with the approval of the Holy See. On May 14, the eve of the World Day of Prayer for Vocations, the Bishop presided at the priestly ordination of a deacon in the diocese of Min Bei, Zhang Zuo Han. More than 2,000 faithful attended the solemn liturgy concelebrated by 37 priests. Immediately after his ordination, the new priest confirmed his full commitment to continue along the path of vocation, asking for everyone's prayer for the Day for Vocations. Instead, the diocese of Ning Xia celebrated the ordination of Deacon John Cao Wang in the new church. Cao is a native of Ning Jing, Inner Mongolia. After studying at the Seminary in Beijing, he began his pastoral service in the diocese of Ning Xia since last September. With him, said the Bishop of Ning Xia, "Our diocese has had the gift of a new worker in the vineyard of the Lord. " (NZ) (Agenzia Fides 05/19/2011)
