EUROPE/SPAIN - Archbishop Fisichella opens Assembly for Social Communications for Spanish dioceses

Madrid (Agenzia Fides) – “Communication and culture in the mission of the Church. The new evangelisation, the new languages”, is the title of the Delegate Assembly for the diocesan heads of social communications, which begins today, 14 February, at the headquarters of the Spanish Episcopal Conference in Madrid. The event will finish on 16 February.
According to a note sent to Fides, the meeting will be chaired by the Bishop of Lerida and President of the Commission for Social Communications, Bishop Joan Piris Frígola. On this occasion, Archbishop Rino Fisichella, President of the Pontifical Society for the Promotion of the New Evangelisation, will open the conference with “New evangelisation. Christian meaning in today's society.”
Fr Franco Lever, dean of the Faculty of Social Communications at the Pontifical Salesian University in Rome will lead a second meeting on “Communication and Culture: evangelisation and new languages”.
On 15 February, the communications lecturer at the Pontifical University of Santa Croce in Rome, Marc Carroggio, will speak on the theme: “The media office of the Church and the culture of controversy”; This intervention will be followed by another titled, “The communicative dimension of World Youth Day 2011 in Madrid, held by the Executive Director of World Youth Day 2011, Yago de la Cierva. At 19:00 a panel discussion is planned on “News agencies within the Church”, in which Paolo Bustaffa will participate, the director of Religious Information Service (RIS, Italy); then Paulo Rocha, director of the Ecclesia Agency and secretary of the Episcopal Commission for Social Communications (Portugal) and Jesus de las Heras, director of Ecclesia and Ecclesia Digital magazines. The moderator for the evening will be Manuel María Bru, director of “El Espejo” and “Hoy es Domingo”.
The last day of the meeting will be a conference on “The COPE group, a voice of the church in Spanish society”, at which Fernando Giménez Barriocanal, Chairman of COPE, will present. (CE) (Agenzia Fides, 14/02/2011)
