AMERICA/PERU - The Archdiocese of Huancayo proclaims 2011 the Year for Social Action in the Church

Huancayo (Agenzia Fides) - The Archdiocese of Huancayo, have proclaimed 2011 as the year dedicated to social action to help the poor, the suffering and the dispossessed by society, according to the instructions of the Social Doctrine of the Church.
This was announced by Archbishop Pedro Barreto, SJ, of Huancayo, during the celebration of the Day for the Diocesan Church, when taking stock of the Year for Communion (2010). On this occasion, Archbishop Barreto explained the activities planned for 2011.
Archbishop Barreto said that the document of Aparecida appoints the local Churches with the task of promoting a renewed commitment to strengthening a social ministry structured in an organized and complete manner. The social ministry in particular should pay primary attention to the reality of exclusion and marginalization of the most vulnerable social groups. In this regard, the Archbishop of Huancayoha recalled that the vicariates should promote the the parish communities' activities especially in remote and most forgotten areas, “where many of our brothers in need our solidarity and our support every day.”
Archbishop Barreto also announced that in the coming months priority will be given to young people. To this end special events such as concerts, meetings, conferences and a Congress at the diocesan level are being planned. In this way the Church in Huancayo prepares to meet the pastoral care challenges until 2015 under the guidance of the Continental Mission. (CE) (Agenzia Fides 17/12/2010)
