ASIA/INDIA - Solidarity among different religious faiths for the International Day of Disabled Persons

Bangalore (Agenzia Fides) - The International Day of Disabled Persons was celebrated on 3 December with special emphasis all over India. Among the initiatives, the Guanellian society celebrated from Bangalore to Poonamalle, from Cuddalore to Thalavadi, with Holy Mass, games and dances by children, prizes and gifts for everyone, a special lunch and discussions with experts on the theme of disability and the current challenges within the Indian social context. More than 3,000 people attended, of which over 50% are disabled. Various civil and religious authorities took part in a sign of respect and sympathy for the work of Catholic missionaries. Among those present were Hindus and Muslims who have also contributed as sponsors of various events. (AP) (Agenzia Fides 09/12/2010)
