VATICAN - Holy Father's appeal for the consolidation of peace and harmony among the baptized, to offer the world “an ever more authentic evangelical testimony”

Wednesday, 22 September 2010

Vatican City (Agenzia Fides) – At the close of the General Audience held today, Wednesday, September 22, during which he spoke of his recent apostolic journey to the United Kingdom, the Holy Father Benedict XVI made an appeal for the fruits of the plenary meeting of the International Mixed Commission for Theological Dialogue Between the Catholic Church and the Orthodox Church as a whole. These are the Pope's words: “Taking place this week in Vienna is the plenary meeting of the International Mixed Commission for Theological Dialogue Between the Catholic Church and the Orthodox Church as a whole. The theme of the present phase of study is the role of the Bishop of Rome in the communion of the universal Church, with particular reference to the first millennium of Christian history. Obedience to the will of the Lord Jesus, and consideration of the great challenges that appear today before Christianity, oblige us to commit ourselves seriously in the cause of the re-establishment of full communion among the Churches. I exhort everyone to pray intensely for the efforts of the Commission and for a continuous development and consolidation of peace among the baptized, so that we can give the world an ever more authentic evangelical testimony.” (SL) (Agenzia Fides 22/09/2010)
