AMERICA/COLOMBIA - Digital culture impact in Latin America: Inter-continental Meeting

Wednesday, 16 June 2010

Bogota (Agenzia Fides) – From today until 19 June representatives of various institutions participating in a continental study on "The impact of digitall culture in Latin America " are meeting in Bogota, at the head offices of CELAM, Council of Catholic Bishops' Conferences of Latin America and the Caribbean. A report sent to Fides says the participants, sharing information on specific studies undertaken, will reflect on the extent and limits of digital culture. They will then define the reciprocal commitment and advantages in the effort of the work undertaken for the common production of this information, which can affect the quality of formation and evangelisation of the present day reality on the continent. A third goal will be to strengthen bonds of understanding and friendship among the participants and build trust and unity in synergy to facilitate socialisation and excellent results in continental research.
The meeting will open with the presence of Archbishop Claudio Maria Celli, President of the Pontifical Council for Social Communications. The Meeting will be an opportunity to reflect on changes in Latin America, in times marked by digital society culture and a complex network of interaction between society, technology and culture.
This continental and multidisciplinary project is part of the activity of (RIIAL), Information Network of the Catholic Church in Latin America www.riial.org, which is under the Pontifical Council for Social Communications; CELAM, www.celam.org and the consolidation of the Inter-Disciplinary Group of Research and Reflection GIRE, coordinated by the Centre for Audiovisual Educative Education (CEDAL) www.cedal.org.co.
