Wednesday, 17 March 2010

Brasilia (Agenzia Fides) – The Coordination Team for the religious network "Un Grito por la Vida" (A Cry for Life) will meet beginning today, March 17th, in Brasilia, to discuss and plan actions relating to combating and preventing trafficking in human beings. The meeting will end on Friday, March 19. According to information sent to Fides, Sister Beatriz Duarte Gomes, Head of the Conference of Religious of Brazil (CRB), said that the main objective of the meeting is the awareness campaign against human trafficking, focusing on the Brazilian fans who will be traveling to South Africa for the World Cup to be held in June this year. The same issue at the international level was addressed in a religious meeting held last month in Johannesburg, capital of South Africa, and promoted by the network "Talita Kum," where they discussed strategies to prevent human trafficking during the World Cup 2010.
Sister Gabriella Bottani, member of the "Un Grito por la Vida," who attended the meeting in South Africa, will offer the nuns gathered in Brasilia indications that emerged on that occasion, urging the debate. Besides the issue of trafficking in persons during the World Cup, the network of religious discussed the choice of the theme for the Campaign of Fraternity (CF) 2012. In fact, the groups that act in the fight against trafficking of people want to ask the National Conference of Brazilian Bishops (CNBB) to add this issue to the campaign in 2012.
