EUROPE/SPAIN - “The Catholic Church and the Fight Against Poverty,” series of conferences on the decisive role of the Catholic Church

Alicante (Agenzia Fides) – Alicante is hosting a series of conferences on “The Catholic Church and the Fight Against Poverty,” which will conclude on January 15. The initiative is organized by the American Missionary Congress (CAM) and the Delegation for Social and Charitable Activities of the Diocese of Orihuela-Alicante, for the European Year for the Fight Against Poverty and Social Marginalization, declared by the European Union for 2010. The conferences will show the important role of the Catholic Church as the principal agent on a local and universal level. There will be an address by Cardinal Oscar Andres Rodriguez de Maradiaga, President of Caritas Internationalis and Archbishop of Tegucigalpa (Honduras), who has for some time been working in the fight to relieve human misery.
