Rome (Agenzia Fides) – On the evening of December 17, at 9pm, at the Auditorium “Parco della Musica” in Rome, in a ceremony attended by Italian President Giorgio Napolitano and Rome's Mayor Gianni Alemanno, the prize “Rome for Peace and Humanitarian Activities for 2009” will be awarded to the Bambino Gesu Pediatric Hospital. The prize, now being presented for the 15th time in its history, awards the winner a sum of 25,822.84 euros.
“Bambino Gesu Pediatric Hospital has, for 140 years, been a beacon of hope for children who suffer and a tangible sign of support which the Holy See offers all sick children and their families,” said Mayor Alemanno. “The hospital, in view of humanitarian and peace, is now an entity present in five continents that has helped young patients in over 40 countries. In this context, this year the City of Rome, in collaboration with Bambino Gesu Hospital, has sent two teams of surgeons to Gaza. A mission that carries with it an omen of peace. I cannot forget the tireless assistance of the hospital during the disastrous earthquake of L'Aquila, where it still has an active outpatient pediatric clinic.” (SL) (Agenzia Fides 17/11/2009)
