Lima (Agenzia Fides) – On Sunday, November 15, Cardinal Juan L. Cipriani Thorne, Archbishop of Lima, presided at the Basilica Cathedral of Lima, a Mass to commemorate 160 years of the Chinese community in Peru. The Mass was also attended by hundreds of faithful of “Vicariate VIII” of the Archdiocese of Lima, who made a pilgrimage to the Church on this occasion to obtain a plenary indulgence on the occasion of the Year for Priests.
During his homily, the Archbishop of Lima pointed out that each community is organized around the values that are formed in it. In this regard, he invited the faithful present in the Cathedral, to form a correct conscience to defend fundamental values, such as the right to life. Bishop Cipriani reaffirmed the defense of the right to life from conception to natural death, and urged the faithful to join in this crusade in defense of life, and asked the Peruvian authorities to enact laws that protect this fundamental value in society.
The Archbishop of Lima congratulated in particular the Chinese community for its160-year presence and work in Peru: "We know that this Chinese migration has been welcomed by Christian community enlightened by faith and hope . We thus hope that one day the Chinese mainland will open its doors, in freedom and respect for the Catholic faith. May God bless all of you members of the Chinese colony." Concelebrating with Cardinal Cipriani were the Auxiliary Bishops of Lima, Bishop Raul Chau and Bishop Adriano Tomasi OFM, in addition to the priests of Vicariate VIII of the Archdiocese of Lima.
