Callao (Agenzia Fides) – On Sunday, October 4, the Diocese of Callao held a Missionary Day to preach the Gospel in the most populous areas of Puerto Chalaco (Peru), such as Ciudad del Pescador. Over 500 lay faithful participated in the event, entitled “Operacion Contacto” (Operation Contact), launched by Saint Peter's Parish in El Pescador. At 7:30, Bishop Miguel Irizar of Callao celebrated a Mass along with the Vicar General, Fr. Juan de Dios, Fr. Alberto Guillen, and Parish Pastor Fr. Dante Sifuentes.
During the celebration, Bishop Irizar presented the participants with a “Missionary Cross” with the mandate to go from house to house announcing the Gospel and the Good News of Jesus Christ. The “missionaries” of Operation Contact are people who undergo a constant and permanent formation, strengthened by a life of prayer, and belong to various parishes in the diocese. The Operation Contact initiative for announcing the Gospel began in December 2006, with a Missionary Day that was held on the shores of Pachacutec, in Ventanilla. Since 2008, they have been held in various parishes in the area. (GT) (Agenzia Fides 5/10/2009)
