VATICAN - 50th International Eucharistic Congress in Dublin, June 2012

Tuesday, 22 September 2009

Vatican City (Agenzia Fides) – The next International Eucharistic Congress (which is the 50th), will take place in Dublin (Ireland), from 10 to 17 June 2012 in Dublin, Ireland, on the theme: "The Eucharist: Communion with Christ and with One Another."
The Pontifical Committee for International Eucharistic Congresses announced this in a communique, explaining that the Holy Father has approved of the date and theme. The choice of theme arises from the fact that the celebration of the congress coincides with the 50th anniversary of the inauguration of Vatican Council II which, as Archbishop Diarmuid Martin of Dublin has affirmed, was a moment of renewal for the Church's teaching and for her understanding of herself as Body of Christ and People of God.” The theme has its direct inspiration in paragraph 7 of the Constitution “Lumen gentium.”
The Irish capital has already created a local Committee that will drafting of the basic theological texts and preparation for the 2012 event. The President is Archbishop Diarmuid Martin; Secretary is Fr. Kevin Doran, Consultor of the Congregation for Catholic Education and Secretary General of European Vocational Services. The website under construction is: www.iec2012.ie. (SL) (Agenzia Fides 22/9/2009)
