VATICAN - “Values and Rules for a New Model of Development”: International Conference organized by the “Centesimus Annus - Pro Pontifice Foundation” on June 12, in Rome

Vatican City (Agenzia Fides) - “Values and Rules for a New Model of Development” is the title for the International Conference being organized by the “Centesimus Annus - Pro Pontifice Foundation,” scheduled to take place in Rome on June 12, 2009 at the “Matteo Ricci” Convention Center at the Pontifical Gregorian University. On June 13, the participants will travel to Vatican City for a Mass presided by Cardinal Attilio Nicora, after which they will have a private audience with the Holy Father.
“Financial globalization: from crisis to rebuilding”; “Geo-economics and governance for the development”; “Models of growth for developing countries”; “New outlooks for human rights protection” are some of the themes to be addressed by the special guests from Italy and other countries, on the morning of June 12. The talks will begin after the welcoming address from the Rector of the Pontifical Gregorian University, Fr. Gianfranco Ghirlanda and the President of the Centesimus Annus Foundation, Lorenzo Rossi di Montelera.
After a break at the end of the morning, the afternoon sessions begin with a presentation of the Pontifical Institute of Arab and Islamic Studies. There will also by a round-table discussion on Centesimus Annus, paragraph 28: “What is called for is a special effort to mobilize resources, which are not lacking as a whole, for the purpose of economic growth and common development, redefining the priorities and hierarchies of values on the basis of which economic and political choices are made.” The conclusions from the day will be presented by Professor Alberto Quadrio Curzio.
