AMERICA/UNITED STATES/HAITI – REVEREND JEAN BAPTISTE GUERLAIN CHANCY APPOINTED NATIONAL DIRECTOR PONTIFICAL MISSION SOCIETIES

Vatican City (Fides Service) – Cardinal Crescenzio Sepe, Prefect of the Congregation for the Evangelisation of Peoples, has appointed on 12 December 2003, National Director of the Pontifical Mission Societies in Haiti, for a five year term (2004-2009), Reverend M. Jean Baptiste Guerlain Chancy of the archdiocese of Port-au-Prince. The new National Director was born on 20 July 1961 at Gros-Morne (Gonaives), in Haiti. He studied philosophy at Cazeau and theology at Turgeau and obtained a Licentiate in Dogmatic Theology at the Pontifical Gregorian University. He was ordained a priest in 1989. Since then he has been: assistant priest at the Cathedral and in various parishes in Port-au-Prince archdiocese, head of the local Catholic Radio, teacher in dogmatic and fundamental theology. Since 1997 diocesan Director of the Pontifical Mission Societies in Port-au-Prince archdiocese. (S.L.) (Fides Service 22/12/2003; lines 10; words 125)
