4 DECEMBER IN THE VATICAN: COMMEMORATION ON 40TH ANNIVERSARY OF VATICAN II LITURGY CONSTITUTION “SACROSANCTUM CONCILIUM”

Vatican City (Fides Service) – On the occasion of the Fortieth Anniversary of the promulgation during the Second Vatican Council of the Constitution on the Sacred Liturgy Sacrosanctum Concilium (4 December 1963), the Congregation for Divine Worship and the Discipline of the Sacraments has organised a Day of Commemoration. The commemoration of that event will be accompanied by reflection on the Liturgy during these past 25 years of the Pontificate of Pope John Paul II and the centenary of the Motu Proprio "Tra le sollecitudini" di St. Pius X (22 November 1903), Instruction on Sacred Music. The event will take place in the Synod Hall in the Vatican, on 4 December 2003, and will commence at 9am. The Inaugural Prayer and Greetings by the Prefect Cardinal Francis Arinze will be followed by conferences on: Sacrosanctum Concilium Forty Years after its promulgation: between the past and future; Sacred Liturgy during the Pontificate of Pope John Paul II; Centenary of the Publication of the Motu proprio Tra le sollecitudini of Pope St Pius X: An evaluation and a prospective. Speakers will include Cardinal Francis Eugene George, O.M.I., Archbishop of Chicago; Cardinal Meisner, Archbishop of Köln; Cardinal Christian Wiyghan Tumi, Archbishop of Douala, Cameroon; Cardinal Ivan Dias, Archbishop of Bombay; Dom Philippe Dupont, O.S.B., Abbot of Solesmes, France.(S.L.)
