Vatican City (Fides Service) - Cardinal Ivan Dias Prefect of the Congregation for the Evangelisation of Peoples on 31 March 2007 appointed Rev. Pradeep A. Sequeira, SJ. Rector of the Pontifical St Francis Xavier inter-diocesan Seminary in Poona.
The new rector was born at Kinnigoly, diocese of Mangalore (India) on 24 October 1941. He attended Pompei High School in Kirem, then obtained a Masters of Science at St. Aloysius College, Mangalore, as well as a Diploma in Spiritual Counselling. He studied philosophy at Sacred Heart College in Kodaikanal and theology at St. Mary’s College, Kurseong. He has a Licentiate in philosophy and a degree in theology from the De Nobili College in Pune. He entered the Society of Jesus on 3 July 1962 and was ordained a priest on 3 May 1975 for the province of Karnataka, making his solemn vows on 15 August 1977. Fr Sequeira has ministered as follows: parish priest, director of the Juniorate, rector of the seminary. Since 2005 diocesan delegate for religious in the archdiocese of Bangalore, he is also involved in formation of the laity, social pastoral and inter-religious dialogue. (S.L.)
