ASIA/INDONESIA - The Pope appoints new Bishop of Surabaya

Vatican City (Agenzia Fides) - The Holy Father, Pope Benedict XVI on 3 April 2007 appointed Rev. Vincentius Sutikno Wisaksono, until now parish priest at Surabaya cathedral, Bishop of Surabaya (Indonesia).
Rev. Vincentius Sutikno Wisaksono was born on 26 September 1953 in Surabaya. He entered St Vincent de Paul minor seminary in Garum, Blitar and later studied philosophy and theology at St Paul’s major seminary in Kentungan, Yogyakarta. He was ordained a priest on 21 January 1982 in the cathedral for the diocese of Surabaya. Since his ordination he ministered as follows: 1982-1983: assistant priest at St Joseph’s parish, Kediri; 1983-1988: formator and burser at St Vincent de Paul minor seminary in Garum, Blitar; 1988-1991: Studies for a Masters in psychology at De La Salle University, Manila, Philippines; 1991-2000: rector of Malang major inter-diocesan seminary; 2000-2004: Studies for a doctorate in psychology at De La Salle University, Manila; since 2004: parish priest at the cathedral.
