Hong Kong (Agenzia Fides) - The Catholic community of Hong Kong continues to preach Christianity through books and publishing initiatives, and this year too it is participating in the upcoming "Hong Kong Book Fair", the book fair that has become a major international event.
With the advent of e-books and the shrinking market for paper books, book fairs are attracting fewer and fewer visitors, especially young people. At the 34th Hong Kong Book Fair, which will be held from 17 to 23 July at the "Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre", Catholic exhibitors are also trying to confront the new dynamics of the publishing industry.
The Catholic Centre, the Catholic Truth Society of Hong Kong and the Diocesan Audiovisual Centre - according to the diocesan magazine "KungKaoPo" (kkp.org.hk) – took care of the exhibition area for Catholic publishers, which is inspired by this year's theme "Reading and Praying, on the way to the Holy Year".
As is tradition, graduates of the Holy Spirit Seminary will volunteer to answer readers' questions about the books on display and for sale. The book presentations in the presence of the authors will also provide an opportunity for direct exchange with readers.
Among the books exhibited by the Catholic community are a book by the Bishop of Hong Kong, Cardinal Stephen Chow Sauyan (SJ), a volume describing the experiences of 57 young Hong Kong participants in the World Youth Day in Lisbon, and a publication by diocesan vicar Peter Choy entitled "The Path of Light - 36 lessons for understanding the Christian faith".
Finally, the special edition of a children's prayer book published by the Diocesan Council of the Laity on the occasion of the Year of Prayer will be launched, which also aims to encourage parents to pray with their children.
