Odorheiu Secuiesc (Agenzia Fides) – From August 18 to 23, more than 80 children and young people participated in a summer camp organized by the Pontifical Mission Societies (PMS) in Romania in Odorheiu Secuiesc, hosted by the Sisters of the Congregation of the Immaculate Heart of Mary.
"Missionaries of Hope" was the theme of this week of prayer and fraternity, during which participants were introduced to the figure of Blessed Carlo Acutis, who will be canonized by Pope Leo XIV on September 7.
Each day began with a prayer, followed by games, workshops, and group activities, with each team wearing the colors of a continent to emphasize the universality of the Church's mission. The afternoons and evenings were dedicated to recreational activities, including the "Missionaries Have Talent" competition. In addition, missionary testimonies helped the young people understand the beauty of solidarity and faith in communion with the poorest.
The play "Carlo Acutis – Missionary and Influencer of Jesus," directed and performed by the group leaders, played a central role. Each day, an episode from the life of the young blessed provided an opportunity for catechesis and reflection.
As part of a team competition, the participants also explored some key figures in the Church's missionary history: from Blessed Pauline Jaricot, foundress of the Pontifical Society for the Propagation of the Faith, to Bishop Charles de Forbin-Janson, founder of the Pontifical Society for Missionary Childhood, to Jeanne Bigard, foundress of the Pontifical Society of St. Peter the Apostle, and Blessed Paolo Manna, founder of the Pontifical Missionary Union. The universal patrons of the missions, Saint Therese of the Child Jesus and Saint Francis Xavier, were present, along with Blessed Pier Giorgio Frassati, who will be canonized on September 7th along with Blessed Carlo Acutis.
On the closing evening, 13 of the summer camp participants were officially admitted to the Missionary Childhood and Adolescence in Romania. (EG) (Agenzia Fides, 30/8/2025)
