Vatican City (Agenzia Fides) - Cardinal Luis Antonio G. Tagle, Pro-Prefect of the Dicastery for Evangelization (Section for First Evangelization and New Particular Churches), on November 13, 2024, appointed Fr. Stephen Chit Thein, of the Catholic diocese of Pyay, as National Director of the Pontifical Mission Societies of Myanmar for five years.
Father Chit Tein, 40, was born in Myanmar and ordained a priest in 2015. He studied Philosophy at the Don Bosco Philosophate in Pyin Oo Lwin (2005-2008), then at the Mandalay University of Distance Education (2008-2010) and at St. Joseph's Catholic Major Seminary in Yangon (2010-2014) and finally in Belgium, in Leuven, at the Catholic University (2022-2024). In the Diocese of Pyay he held several ministries, including Diocesan Project Coordinator, Diocesan Youth Coordinator at St. Paul's Cathedral until becoming rector between 2017 and 2019. He has also served in the same diocese as director of St. Paul's College and as parish priest of the Sacred Heart Church. (EG) (Agenzia Fides, 12/19/2024)
