Bogotà (Agenzia Fides) - Six African theology students of the Consolata Missionaries, the parish priest Fr. Naftaly Matogi (IMC) and the assistant parish priest Fr. José Lorenzo Gómez Sánchez (IMC) form the "Apostolic Formation Community" in the parish of Our Lady of the Consolata in Bogotà, which was founded with the aim of "making this parish a missionary community, in the context of the city in which it is located," as Fr. José emphasizes.
"The main characteristic of the Formation Community in Bogotá is that it is located in a parish where the seminarians study, but are also involved in all the activities of the parish. It is a very active community, located in an area where there are many elderly people and where there are other pastoral challenges of the parish that require collaboration,” explains the assistant parish priest.
Referring to the recent canonization of the Order’s founder, Giuseppe Allamano, Father Josè added that “this is a very important event for all the Consolata Missionaries, which gives us the opportunity to deepen our charism, missionary aspect and spirituality, but above all to recognize that the miracle underlying the canonization took place in a missionary context among an indigenous people, the Yanomami, and that for us it is a further confirmation of God’s blessing on our mission.”
The Consolata Missionaries Institute currently has 355 seminarians, including 133 theology students, 30 novices, 150 philosophy and 42 preparatory seminarians. (AP) (Agenzia Fides, 15/11/2024)
