AFRICA/NIGERIA - Two people arrested in connection with the kidnapping of Father Thomas Ayode

Abuja (Agenzia Fides) - The police in Edo State have announced the arrest of two people suspected of being involved in the kidnapping of Father Thomas Ayode, head of the Imaculate Conception Minor Seminary in Ivanokpodi. The priest was kidnapped in the late afternoon of Sunday 27 October (see Fides, 29/10/2024).
The police said that the two suspects were arrested on charges of armed robbery, kidnapping, members of a sect and car theft, as well as in connection with the kidnapping of Father Thomas Ayode.
According to the Nigerian press, the kidnappers had contacted the Diocese of Auchi and demanded a ransom of 200 million naira (equivalent to around 112,441 euros) for the release of the priest. The police said they had taken all necessary measures to ensure the speedy release of Father Ayode. (L.M.) (Agenzia Fides, 31/10/2024)
