Verona (Agenzia Fides) - Tomorrow, Saturday 21 September, the new headquarters of the Missionary Education Center “Centro Unitario per la Formazione Missionaria” (CUM) will be inaugurated in Verona. The Missio Italia Education Center, supported by the Italian Bishops' Conference, trains Italian missionaries who, for various reasons, leave for various forms of collaboration with the Churches in the South of the world. But that's not all. Special attention is also given, with ad hoc courses, to missionaries returning to Italy, as well as to foreign missionaries who come to Italy for study or for pastoral tasks in their dioceses or institutes.
The history of the educational center has always been linked to Verona: the center was founded in the late 1960s, after the Second Vatican Council, as a Seminary for Latin America in San Massimo, then it was transformed into CEIAL and CEIAS, ecclesiastical centers for Latin America, Africa and Asia, which finally merged into the CUM.
In recent months, the activities have been moved to the former provincial house of the Lombardy-Veneto province of the Camillians. The opening event will begin at 9.30 a.m. and can be followed via live streaming on the Missio Italia YouTube channel (https://www.youtube.com/@missioitalia). The program includes greetings at 9.30 a.m. by the President of Missio Italia, Bishop Michele Auturo, the Bishop of Verona, Domenico Pompili (via video message), the National Director of Missio Italia, Father Giuseppe Pizzoli, and the Mayor of Verona, Damiano Tommasi. This is followed by reflections and testimonies on the importance of the mission in today's world. At 12 noon the blessing prayer with the official inauguration will take place. After the buffet, at 2 p.m., there will be time for the cultural afternoon: a round table on the theme of "Culture of welcome and integration", a tour of the house and the CEDOR documentation center, photo exhibitions, videos on the history of the CUM and on today's missions, readings, a children's area and a guided tour of the church and the reliquary chapel. At 4.30 p.m. there will be a concert by the Mosaika orchestra in the courtyard, followed by a farewell aperitif. (EG) (Agenzia Fides, 20/9/2024)
