AFRICA/MADAGASCAR - Appointment of Bishop of Morombe

Vatican City (Agenzia Fides) - The Holy Father has appointed the Reverend Jean Désiré Razafinirina, of the clergy of the diocese of Toliara, until now rector and professor at the Saint Jean Baptiste Major Seminary of Vohitsoa, as bishop of the diocese of Morombe, Madagascar.
Msgr. Jean Désiré Razafinirina was born on 5 May 1975 in Morombe, in the archdiocese of Toliara. He attended the Saint Jean Baptiste Major Seminary in Vohitsoa and was subsequently awarded a licentiate in canon law from the Pontifical Urban University of Rome.
He was ordained a priest on 10 August 2003 for the clergy of Toliara.
He has held the following offices: educator in the minor seminary of Toliara, vicar in Andranovory (2003-2004) and vicar of the Cathedral (2004-2005); parish priest of Notre Dame de l’Assomption in Sakaraha (2005-2007); parish priest of the Cathedral of Toliara and member of the College of Consultors (2010-2013); formator of the major seminary of Vohitsoa, Fianarantsoa (2013-2017); since 2017, rector and formator of the major seminary of Vohitsoa, Fianarantsoa.
