ASIA/INDIA - Appointment of bishop of Meerut

Vatican City (Agenzia Fides) -The Holy Father has appointed the Reverend Bhaskar Jesuraj, of the clergy of the archdiocese of Agra, until now deputy secretary of the Agra Regional Bishops’ Council and head of Saint Clare’s Senior Secondary School in Agra, as bishop of Meerut, India.
Msgr. Bhaskar Jesuraj was born on 11 April 1966 in the diocese of Tanjore, Tamil Nadu. After attending the minor seminary, he continued his philosophical and theological formation at Saint Joseph’s Regional Seminary in Allahabad, choosing to become a missionary in northern India.
He was ordained a priest on 21 April 1993 for the archdiocese of Agra.
After ordination, he held the following offices: deputy parish priest of Nishkalanka Mata in Jaith (1993-1995); deputy parish priest of Saint Theresa in Kosikalan (1995-1996); deputy parish priest (1996-1997) and then parish priest of Saint Patrick (1997-1999); deputy head and then head of Saint Clare’s Senior School in Agra (1997-1999); and secretary to the archbishop and bursar (1999-2006). He was awarded a licentiate in pastoral management from the Jnana Deepa Institute of Philosophy and Theology in Pune (2006-2008) and went on to serve as parish priest of Saint Fidelis in Aligarh (2008-2009); chancellor of the archdiocese of Agra (since 2009), secretary to the archbishop, and head of Saint Felix Nursery School in Agra (2009-2013); director of Saint Peter’s College in Agra (2013-2019); from 2011 to date, deputy secretary of the Agra Regional Bishops’ Council and, since 2019, head of Saint Clare’s Senior Secondary School in Agra.
