Vatican City (Agenzia Fides) - Communicating joy and "speaking from the heart", as Pope Francis says in his message for the Day of Social Communications 2023; to serve the Lord and the local churches in the work of evangelization; avoid any polarization and make the Truth pleasant, looking with love at those who do not know the love of God: these are the points that prof. Daniel Arasa, Dean of the Faculty of Institutional Communication of the Pontifical University of the Holy Cross (PUSC) and Father Dinh Anh Nhue Nguyen OFM Conv, Secretary General of the Pontifical Missionary Union (PMU) developed during the closing ceremony of the 4th edition of the Multimedia Training Course "Communication is Mission", 2022-2023 edition, during which the certificates were awarded. The course, promoted thanks to the collaboration between the PMU and the Pontifical University, is aimed above all at college students under the jurisdiction of the Dicastery for Evangelization, and aims to form pastoral agents in a mentality that considers communication and the mass mediates as an opportunity to spread the Gospel.
The experience, which lasts one academic year, offers theoretical and practical skills on multimedia communication, through the specific study and experimentation of video, radio, web, photography and languages of writing that students - priests, religious, seminarians, doctoral students and lay people present in the international colleges of the Dicastery for Evangelization, in particular from Africa, Asia and Oceania and from the Apostolic Vicariates of the Americas - make available local churches.
The International Center for Missionary Animation (CIAM), where the courses take place, is also involved in the formation experience. The students showed their personal growth in the field of communication, announcing their involvement in diocesan radios, especially in Africa, and in the social communication offices of their respective dioceses and congregations.
