EUROPE/AUSTRIA - Blessed Jaricot, "spark" of missionary passion all over the world

Tuesday, 18 April 2023

Vienna (Agenzia Fides) - Blessed Jaricot, her life, her works but above all her apostolic faith, which generated a true worldwide missionary movement, were the subject of a conference promoted by the Austrian Direction of the Pontifical Mission Societies ( PMS), Missio Austria, held last week in Vienna. The conference was enriched by the participation of Mayline Tran, the fourteen-year-old French girl who was healed 10 years ago thanks to the intercession of Blessed Pauline Marie Jaricot (see Fides, 23/5/2022), and her family. The healing was decisive for the beatification of Jaricot, and Mayline's father, Emmanuel Tran, told not only the miracle but above all the "fruits" it brought to the whole family.
Among the speakers who attended the day of study and reflection on the founder of the Pontifical Mission Societies,
Sister Roberta Tremarelli, General Secretary of the Pontifical Society of Missionary Childhood, and Father Dinh Anh Nhue Nguyen, General Secretary of the Pontifical Missionary Union and also some national directors of the PMS.
Father Karl Wallner, director of Missio Austria, underlined how this conference was intended to raise awareness of the figure of this young 23-year-old woman from whom the PMS were born. "Blessed Jaricot - said Father Wallner - is the spark that lit the fire of the mission all over the world".
Father Anh Nhue Nguyen underlined the importance of the figure of Blessed Pauline Jaricot for the evangelizing mission today, insisting on the three aspects that Pope Francis, in his message to the PMS for the beatification of Jaricot (see Fides, 23/5/2022) highlighted: the conversion of the Blessed, her life of prayer in communion with God and the concreteness of charity. "From this conversion - said Father Nguyen - her life was marked by communion and prayer with the Triune God".
Starting from the figure of the founder, Bishop Charles de Forbin-Janson, who in 1843 gave life to the Society to help children first in China and then on all the continents, Sister Roberta Tremarelli traced the highlights of the history of the Pontifical Society until today, recalling its presence in more than 120 countries.
