AMERICA/GUADELOUPE - Appointment of Bishop of Basse-Terre and Pointe-à-Pitre

Vatican City (Agenzia Fides) - The Holy Father has appointed the Reverend Philippe Guiougou, of the clergy of the diocese of Saint-Denis-en-France, until now vicar general and moderator of the Pastoral Unit of Saint-Denis, France, as bishop of Basse-Terre et Point-à-Pitre, Guadaloupe.
Msgr. Philippe Guiougou was born on 8 June 1973 in Baie Mahault aux Abymes, Guadaloupe, and moved to France in 1995. He received his formation at the Séminaire Saint-Sulpice in Issy-les-Moulineaux, where he was awarded a bachelor’s degree in theology. On 27 June 2004 he was ordained a priest for the diocese of Saint-Denis-en-France.
He has held the following offices: vicar of the parishes of Christ Resussité, Saint-Louis and Saint-Pierre in Bondy (2004-2012); accompanier of youth pastoral care (2007-2010); episcopal vicar for youth pastoral care and member of the episcopal council (2010-2019); and parish priest of the parishes of Notre-Dame de Bon Secours, Saint-André and Tous les Saints in Bobigny (2012-2018). He spent a year of theological formation in “Believing and understanding”, at the Centre Sèvres in Paris (2018-2019). From 2019 to date he has served as vicar general of the diocese of Saint-Denis-en-France, and from 2020, moderator of the Saint Denis Pastoral Unit. (SL) (Agenzia Fides, 3/4/2023)
