AFRICA/MADAGASCAR - Appointment of the Bishop of Ambanja, Donatien Francis Randriamalala

Vatican City (Agenzia Fides) - The Holy Father Francis has appointed Fr. Donatien Francis Randriamalala, M.S., currently parish priest of Notre Dame de la Salette and Vicar General of the Diocese of Morondava, as Bishop of the Diocese of Ambanja (Madagascar).
His Exc. Msgr. Donatien Francis Randriamalala, M.S., was born on January 6, 1971 in Antsirabé. He studied Law at the University of Antananarivo. In 1992 he was admitted to the Studentate of the Congregation of the Missionaries of Our Lady of La Salette (Salettiani). From 1993 to 1995 he completed his postulancy and novitiate and then attended the Saint Paul Apôtre Major Seminary in Antsirabé. He made his perpetual vows on September 19, 2000 and in the same year he entered the Saint Thérèse de l 'Enfant-Jésus Major Seminary in Antananarivo. He received his priestly ordination on August 19, 2003 in Antsirabé. In 2010, he obtained a Licentiate in Theology, with a specialization in youth ministry, at the Salesian Pontifical University in Rome.
He has held the following positions: Responsible for the missionary district of Avaradrano, in the Diocese of Morondava (2003-2006); since 2010, parish priest of Notre Dame de la Salette in Morondava and Vicar General of the same diocese; since 2013, Director of the Diocesan Radio.
