AMERICA/COSTA RICA - Consecrated life: "An open hand for all"

Limon (Agenzia Fides) - "To be witnesses to the values of the Kingdom according to the experience of our charisms, in creative fidelity for the enrichment of our Church. Renew our commitment to a radically evangelical life, in closeness and solidarity with the poor, in defense of those who experience injustice and oppression, being an open hand for all". These are two of the challenges that emerged at the National Meeting of Consecrated Life in Costa Rica, recently held in Limon on the theme "Consecrated Life in Synodality".
In the concluding message signed by Monsignor Bartolomé Buigues Oller, Bishop of Alajuela, and by Fr. José Manuel Araya Chavarria, CSsr, respectively Executive Secretary and President of the National Commission for Consecrated Life, the commitment to be "a voice that helps to make the Costa Rican Church aware of the beauty and richness of the consecrated life as a gift from God, to stimulate it to know it better and to take it into account in the synodal journey. Furthermore, to express the service that consecrated life carries out in our society in the different social works, but above all for its proposal of values that affect the social environment".
The great family of Costa Rican consecrated life wants to "grow in the awareness of being part of a synodal Church, in which changes are produced by the involvement of all, but above all by listening to the voice of all". Religious men and women are therefore experiencing the processes of ecclesial transformation "in the light of a model of the Church as the People of God on the way", "an ecclesial model capable of creating new ways of proceeding based on listening, dialogue, community discernment, advice and decisions taken jointly".
Other challenges that emerged in the national meeting refer to the need to open the doors of religious communities "offering spaces for the experience of God, for communion, for dialogue, for closeness, for listening", as well as promoting "dynamics of participation , consultation, decision-making and walking together", both in religious communities and in mission fields where the religious are present. A further aspect refers to a greater participation in the life and mission of the particular Churches and, finally, the need to encourage and value all those who are close to the consecrated life in the synodal journey, especially lay people who share the charisms of the different religious institutes.
