AFRICA/NIGERIA - Bishop of Okigwe resigns and is succeeded

Vatican City (Fides Service) - The Holy Father Pope Benedict XVI, on 22 April 2006, accepted the renunciation of the pastoral government of the diocese of Okigwe (Nigeria), presented by Bishop. Anthony Ekezia Ilonu, in conformity with the Code of Canon Law, can. 401 § 2. The Bishop is succeeded by Bishop Solomon Amanchukwu Amatu, until now Coadjutor of the same diocese. (S.L.)
