Lima (Agenzia Fides) - The Bishop of Lurín and President of the Episcopal Commission for the Clergy, Seminaries and Vocations of the Peruvian Episcopate, Msgr. Carlos García Camader, invites us to live, in communion with the whole Church, the 59th World Day of Prayer for Vocations to be celebrated on May 8, Fourth Sunday of Easter or Good Shepherd Sunday. He therefore urges us to live this day hoping in the Lord, who continues to call men and women whom he makes capable of serving others with joy, renouncing themselves and remaining faithful to his call in daily life.
The Peruvian Episcopal Conference, through the Episcopal Commission for Clergy, Seminaries and Vocations, has published a "Methodological Guide to Vocations" and printed a Prayer for Vocations. This material is offered to vocation animators, pastoral agents, formation teams, diocesan teams and parish priests in the country, so that they can promote the spirit of prayer for vocations.
In introducing the Guide, the Executive Secretary of the Commission, Fr. Jorge Carreno Giron, invites us to reflect on the enriching message that Pope Francis left during his pastoral visit to Peru in 2018, deepening the reality that our vocations have a double dimension: "Roots on earth and heart in heaven". In his message, the Holy Father invited us to look at our roots, which really support our vocation in the course of history, "without roots there is no fruit" underlined the Bishop of Lurin. "Our vocation can wither without producing the fruits that God expects. Let us be witnesses of the Gospel by being people who remember, joyful and grateful, so we will be servants, in the image of Jesus Christ, Good Shepherd and Servant".
The secretary of the Commission then exhorts to a synodal ministry of vocations: "let us walk together to help young people discover, in their daily lives, the richness of the vocation to priestly or religious life". "Let us take up together the challenge of listening to, accompanying and guiding young people in their good vocational discernment. Like the disciples of Emmaus, let us walk with them in the midst of their joys, their sorrows, their sufferings and their doubts".
"Let us become aware that the vocation which is realized in synodal form, walks like the disciples of Emmaus towards the great Mission of announcing the risen Christ". (SL) (Agenzia Fides, 7/5/2022)
