AFRICA/NIGERIA - Appointment of the Bishop of Katsina-ala

Vatican City (Agenzia Fides) - On April 9, 2022 the Holy Father Francis appointed Rev. Fr. Isaac Bunde Dugu, of the clergy of Gboko Diocese, currently Director of the Pastoral Agents Department of the Catholic Secretariat of Nigeria, as Bishop of the Diocese of Katsina-ala (Nigeria).
Bishop-Elect Isaac Bunde Dugu was born on April 14, 1971 in Gboko, in the Diocese of Makurdi. After attending St. Thomas Aquinas Major Seminary in Makurdi (1991-1993) and St. Augustine’s Major Seminary in Jos (1994-1999), he obtained a Licentiate in Theology from the Philosophisch-Theologische Hochschule Sankt Georgen in Frankfurt, Germany (2007-2011). He was ordained a priest on 21 October 2000 for the clergy of the Diocese of Makurdi and subsequently joined the clergy of the new Diocese of Gboko (erected at the end of 2012).
After ordination he held the following positions: Parish Vicar of the Holy Ghost in Abeda (2000-2003); priest in charge of the Parish of St. Mary in Chito; Parish Vicar of the Holy Ghost in Makurdi (2003-2004); Administrative Secretary at the Catholic Secretariat of Nigeria (CSN) in Lagos (2004-2007); Licentiate in Theology from the Philosophisch-Theologische Hochschule Sankt Georgen in Frankfurt, Germany (2007-2011); Chaplain of the Schools of Nursing and Midwifery (2011-2012) and Chancellor of the Diocese of Makurdi (2011-2013); Chancellor and Member of the Council of Consultors of the Diocese of Gboko (2013-2019); Parish priest of the St. George’s Rectory in Tyobo, Gboko (2013-2019); Expert of the Nigerian Episcopal Conference since 2020 and Director of the Pastoral Agents Department at the Catholic Secretariat of Nigeria (2013-2019).
