AFRICA/RWANDA - Resignation of the Bishop of Byumba and appointment

Vatican City (Agenzia Fides) - The Holy Father Francis has accepted the resignation from the pastoral care of the Diocese of Byumba (Rwanda) presented by His Exc. Msgr. Servilien Nzakamwita. The Holy Father has appointed Rev. Papias Musengamana, of the clergy of Kabgayi, currently Rector of the Grand Séminaire Saint Charles Borromée of Nyakibanda, as Bishop of the same diocese.
His Exc. Msgr. Papias Musengamana was born on August 21, 1967 in Byimana, Diocese of Kabgayi. After attending primary school in Mwendo (1974-1982), he entered the Petit Séminaire Saint Léon in Kabgayi (1982-1988). He attended the Preparatory Seminary of Rutongo (1988-1989) and the Major Seminary of Philosophy of Kabgayi (1989-1991). He completed his Theology studies at the Université Catholique d ’Afrique Centrale-Institut Catholique de Yaoundé in Cameroon (1991-1996) where he obtained a Licentiate in Biblical Theology. He was ordained a priest on May 18, 1997.
Since his priestly ordination he has held the following positions: Secretary of the Bishop (1997-1999); Doctorate in Biblical Theology at the Albert-Ludwigs-Universität Freiburg in Germany (1999-2005); Parish Vicar in Kamonyi (2005-2006); Diocesan Treasurer (2006-2013); Vicar General of Kabgayi (2013-2017) and since 2018 he has been Rector of the Grand Séminaire Saint Charles Borromée of Nyakibanda.
