Brasilia (Agenzia Fides) - The Brazilian Bishops' Conference (CNBB) has presented the second edition of the text of Studies No. 95 on the "Ministry of the Catechist". This new edition is intended to be useful after the first of 2007, "at this stage of the maturation of the mission of the catechist in the Church", after the Apostolic Letter "Antiquum Ministry" of Pope Francis officially introduced and recognized the lay ministry of the catechist (see Fides, 11/5/2021).
According to the CNBB note sent to Agenzia Fides, the work aims to "educate us in the Ministry, because before establishing it, it is necessary to understand it." The reflections contained in the book are the result of extensive reflection by the Episcopal Commission for Biblical-Catechetical Animation carried out already in 2007, and will help to better understand what Pope Francis established in last year's Apostolic Letter, with which he established the Ministry of the Catechist.
"The motu proprio was a strong impulse for us to recognize and promote the service character of the Church more courageously and has already triggered very interesting steps here in Brazil", emphasized the Archbishop of Curitiba and President of the Commission for Biblical-Catechetical Animation of the Brazilian Bishops, José Antônio Peruzzo.
The first edition of the text from 2007 is a "valuable study document" and according to Bishop Peruzzo, "it is a valuable text, not only a reflection but also the result of long research, as the detailed explanations confirm". At this moment, the new edition has become necessary because the demand has increased and the topicality of the text has proven to be very stimulating".
