Tetere (Agenzia Fides) - "We must be messengers of peace in this country and rehabilitate the image of the Solomon Islands", said Fr. Robinson Parappilly, SDB, encouraging young people gathered at the Don Bosco Rural Technical Center (DBRTC) in Tetere, in the Solomon Islands, to celebrate World Youth Day 2021.
Fr Robinson, parish priest of the Christ the King Parish and Rector of the DBRTC, challenged the 450 young Catholics from some parishes and invited them to face the critical issues they are experiencing and to bring Christ and Christian values into the lives of other young people.
The priest referred to the moment of uncertainty, deep pain, the destroyed image of Christ, the political unrest and the huge damage just recorded in the Country (see Fides, 6/12/2021).
Fr. Casper Charles, Rector of the Don Bosco Technical Institute, spoke to the young people about Laudato Sì and the importance of taking care of the common home. Fr. Jacob Aba, a Marist priest instead stressed the importance of Christian morality and Christian principles, as well as urging children to refrain from drugs and illegal practices. The program that the young people carried out from December 2 to 5 had the theme "Saints, formed and sent for service". The four days ended with Mass presided by Fr. Robinson accompanied by the young people of Teter. "If the youth of this generation falls, humanity falls, but if youth rises, then humanity rises; you as young people are the backbone of the church", said the parish priest in his homily.
"Young people must give vitality and vigor to the Church, they must stand up, recognize old errors, prepare to receive Jesus in their hearts and become great witnesses of the Gospel in their parishes". (AP) (Agenzia Fides, 7/12/2021)
