Rome (Agenzia Fides) - On November 18 and 19, the "Don Bosco Global Youth Film Festival" of the Don Bosco Salesians will take place for the first time around the world, with an award ceremony on November 19 in Turin (Teatro Grande Valdocco). The festival, organized by the “Don Bosco Fondation in the World”, is aimed at young people between the ages of 15 and 30 from all over the world and awards the category of short films. The "Don Bosco Global Youth Film Festival" is inspired by Pope Francis' vision, emphasizes Don Gildasio Mendes, Don Bosco Salesian General Councilor for Social Communication to dream of advocating high ideals, he encouraged them to become responsible citizens". One hundred and sixteen countries in the world are represented with over 1600 works, which are divided into 5 categories and uploaded to the web platform specially created for the festival. The five-language platform (English, Italian, Spanish, French and Portuguese) offers filmmakers, jury and audience the opportunity to meet across all geographical borders. "It is a festival that has the character of a mission", said Father Harris Pakkam, director of the festival, to Fides: "There are works from remote villages in Papua New Guinea, where we are present with our missions ; the missionaries accompanied and motivated our young people to take part in this festival". "Moved by Hope" is the theme of the festival, which takes up the motto that the Superior General of the Salesians Don Bosco has proclaimed throughout the world as a guideline for all activities of the religious family and which also inspired the submitted works. In a pre-selection, 100 representatives from all continents who have specialist knowledge in the fields of cinema and youth decided in a three-stage process on the films in question in the various categories, so that around 110 films still competed in the final selection.
