Lira (Agenzia Fides) - The need to create new parishes in the diocese of Lira was confirmed in response to the requests of Christians in need of spiritual support from pastoral workers. In the note from the Bishops sent to Fides, it is clear that one of the factors that made it necessary to create new parishes is territorial distance. In fact, due to the often endless borders between one village and another, it is often not possible for Christians to receive the sacraments on a regular basis. In the newly established parish “St. Mary of the Immaculate Conception” in the village of Loro, Joseph Franzelli, Bishop Emeritus of the Diocese of Lira, called on Christians to welcome the new parish with joy, to strengthen evangelization among the People of God and to work with the new pastors. In this context, the prelate also called on parishioners to refrain from violence and other criminal acts and instead to promote peaceful coexistence. The Bishop of Lira, Mgr. Sanctus Lino Wanok, thanked all Christians for their commitment in preparing the site for the parish “St. Peter Clever” in the district of the same name and urged everyone to help those in need along the lines of their patron saint. The new parish “St. Peter Clever Ober” is the 24th parish in the diocese. Preparations are also in full swing in Christian communities to ensure that even more parishes are created for Christians in the region. (AP) (Agenzia Fides, 14/9/2021)
