Lima (Agenzia Fides) - Monsignor Miguel Cabrejos Vidarte, President of the Peruvian Bishops' Conference and President of the Latin American Episcopal Council (CELAM), received ten members of the Congress this week at the archbishop's residence, who paid a courtesy visit after taking office at the end of July, representing indigenous peoples and remote areas of Peru.
The meeting was also attended by the Apostolic Nuncio in Peru, His Exc. Nicola Girasoli, and Mgr. Ciro Quispe, Bishop of Juli.
During the meeting, the participants expressed their views on the country's political, social, economic and environmental perspectives for the next five years. Monsignor Cabrejos, in turn, thanked the new MPs for their visit and urged them to continue dialogue with the Church in order to help those most in need. Monsignor Cabrejos also reflected on what "Good Politics" means in the light of Pope Francis' latest encyclical
"Fratelli tutti".
The Peruvian Bishops' Conference emphasizes that this cordial meeting has created a space where the representatives of the people have forged ties in favor of work for the common good of the country. This is particularly important at the present time, as society is divided after Pedro Castillo took office. (CE) (Agenzia Fides, 13/8/2021)
