Crema (Agenzia Fides) - "Since I returned free, I have not stopped praying I invite everyone not to forget the other hostage detainees in the Sahel and to continue to pray for them", said Father Gigi Maccalli, priest of the Society for African Missions, who was kidnapped in Niger on September 17, 2018 and released on October 9, 2020, to Fides. "Among them, today, June 7, 2021, I would especially like to remember Sister Gloria Cecilia Narvaez Agoti, who was kidnapped on February 7, 2017 in Mali. On this day, I ask from the bottom of my heart: Let's not forget her!"
Father Maccalli spoke personally with Sophie Pétronin (see Fides, 15/10/2020) and Edith Blais, who were held hostage with Sister Gloria before their release. "Both confirmed to me that they were concerned that she would now have to deal with the fate of the kidnapping on her own".
"I appeal to the public and ask all Christians to pray for her release, mindful and grateful for the incessant prayer, in grateful memory of the many prayers that were said for my release", concluded Fr. Gigi Maccalli
Sister Gloria, a Colombian religious of the Congregation of the Franciscan Sisters of Mary Immaculate, was kidnapped by armed men from the parish of Karangasso in Koutiala on the night of February 7, 2017. (GM/AP) (Agenzia Fides, 7/6/2021)
