Puerto Maldonado (Agenzia Fides) - "In the magazine "Memoria Selvas Amazonicas 2020" the missionaries of the Dominican order publish a report on their own activities in the Amazon.
"Selvas Amazonicas - Dominican Missionaries" is an institution of the Spanish province of the Order of Preachers (O.P.), which is dedicated to promoting "Mission ad gentes". It was founded in 1966 by Fray Francisco Arias González OP to support the evangelization, social and development work of the missionaries of the Dominican Order in the rainforest in southeastern Peru. Cooperation was later extended to all vicariates and religious orders outside the province: Dominican Republic and Cuba; Uruguay, Paraguay and Argentina; Equatorial Guinea and Peru.
As the magazine points out, the missionaries of the Dominican Order devote themselves to four different areas of work: evangelization, education, health and infrastructure development. The pandemic has affected already planned programs and campaigns, some of which have been suspended as a result of the lockdown.
