Montevideo (Agenzia Fides) - More than 650 people attended a one-week training seminar on “Catechesis and Mission” organized by the Pontifical Mission Societies in America with the support of the Society of Latin American Catechists (SCALA).
The Coordination of the National Directions of the Pontifical Mission Societies in America promoted this training initiative which took place on the Zoom digital platform from February 8 to 15 through daily links lasting 75 minutes each, which included presentation of the topic by the speaker, questions from participants and answers. The meetings were also transmitted on the Facebook pages of certain National Directions. The themes discussed, at the rate of one per day, were: Revelation and its transmission; catechesis in the process of evangelization; the pedagogy of faith; language at the service of the communication of faith; catechesis in the life of people; contemporary cultural scenarios; inculturation of faith. This training week was attended by people from Mexico, Guatemala, Nicaragua, Honduras, El Salvador, Panama, Costa Rica, Dominican Republic, Venezuela, Colombia, Brazil, Peru, Ecuador, Bolivia, Paraguay, Chile, Argentina and Uruguay.
Following the catechesis document published by the Pontifical Council for the Promotion of the New Evangelization, the Pontifical Mission Societies in America wanted to go deeper into the various phases of the evangelization process and discuss questions and suggestions that arise in the current situation. "We do not take on the responsibility of organizing or coordinating catechesis in the dioceses - underlined the National Director of the PMS of Uruguay and Coordinator of the PMS in America, Fr. Leonardo Rodríguez -, because for this reason there are organizations created specifically at different levels, but in the case of the PMS it is necessary to provoke this dialogue between animation and missionary formation with catechesis, because the training of missionary disciples is our common goal".
