Santa Cruz (Agenzia Fides) - The Archbishop of Santa Cruz, Mgr. Sergio Gualberti, denounced the fact that the efforts in view of the electoral campaign overshadow the commitment to safeguard health and life, and asked politicians, the media and social network operators not to promote this situation of tension.
In these very difficult and complex times due to the exponential growth in the number of cases of corona virus and electoral commitments, we are called to prioritize the protection of life and health, ready to sacrifice other goods and interests, urged the Archbishop.
Catholic media throughout the country took up Bishop Gualberti's homily of Sunday 24, in which he appealed to all the country's media to "commit themselves to creating a climate of serenity, dialogue, communion and peace, which favors the application of the measures necessary to fight against the contagion". Bishop Gualberti expressed the hope that the living presence of Christ will fill the hearts of all with hope and strength, especially those who suffer the aggression and suffering of the contagion.
The Kingdom of God, he said in his homily, is very different from human kingdoms, it is not a political reality and of power, it is the plan of love, life and peace of God the Father for all mankind, the plan of salvation that embraces all sectors of human existence: personal, public, ethical and political.
The intervention of the Archbishop of Santa Cruz is in line with the presentation, two days ago, of a document written by 23 Catholic and civil society institutions entitled "Covid-19: life before politics and business", in which the government is asked for more effective responses to the Covid-19 crisis and the coordination of actions that help prevent speculation.
Bolivia is unable to count the number of infections in this second wave of the pandemic, while political leaders, as Mgr.Gualberti says, are only interested in the electoral campaign, for the administrative elections on March 7, 2021. (CE) (Agenzia Fides, 29/1/2021)
